Saint Anne

Anne was born in Bethlehem. She married a man named Joachim. She and Joachim had no children. They were very old when they prayed to God to give them a child. Anne became the mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus.

The name, Anne, means Grace and Loving One. She is the patron saint of mothers and children. God gave her many special graces, and the greatest was that she was the mother of God.

Her feast day is July 26th.

Mary, Queen of All Saints

Mary had no brothers or sisters, which made her an only child. She was chosen by God to be the mother of His own son, Jesus.

As Jesus' mother, she was with Him all his life. She was even with Him when He died on Calvary. You may call her Mother, or Our Blessed Mother, when you pray.

Saint Anthony of Padua

Anthony was born on August 15, 1195. He performed many miracles. Anthony restored a severed limb, brought a child back to life, and the infant Jesus hugged him. He died on May 30, 1232.

Saint Augustine

Saint Augustine was born in North Africa in 354. He was working for a really bad company. He had a mother that was a saint. Her name was Monica. Augustine changed his life and became a priest, thanks to his mom's prayers

Saint Catherine of Siena

Saint Catherine was the oldest of 23 children. She became a Dominican nun even though her family wanted her to be married. She was able, however, to live at her own home, and not in the convent. She cared for the poor and sick. There was a serious situation in the Church at the time. She helped solve the problem.

She shared all her love in a book, called The Dialogue. She is the patron saint of Italy. Her feast day is April 30th.

Saint Christopher

Saint Christopher was born on July 25th. He was always a very strong man. He lived by a dangerous river and he would carry people on his shoulders across the strong current. One day I carried a child who felt like the weight of the world. The child told me that I had just carried the Creator of the Earth.

Christopher means "Christ Bearer". He is the patron saint of all travelers.

Saint Dominic

 

Dominic was born to a wealthy family. He started a religion for teaching and preaching the truths about Christ. They were called the Dominicans. He was the reason many people came back to the church in the 1200's. His feast day is August 8th. He died in 1221.

 Saint Elizabeth of Hungary

 

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary was born around 1207. Her feast day is November 17th. She is normally shown holding shown holding a basket of roses. Legends tell of her being out distributing bread to the poor. Her husband, Louis, saw her. The bread was miraculously changed into roses to hide her true mission. She died before her 24th. birthday in the year 1231. She was canonized four years later.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was born in 1774. In 1794, she married William Seton. Will died of tuberculosis while he was in Italy. The sadness in Elizabeth's life due to her husband's death drew her closer to God. She started the first free Catholic school in America.

Elizabeth was the first American born person to be canonized a saint.

Saint Francis Of Assisi

Francis was born in Assisi, Italy in 1182. When he was young he was very wealthy. But as he got older, he decided to give up all his money and help the poor. He started the Franciscans Monks. He died on October 4, 1226.

Saint John Neumann

Saint John Neumann was born in1811 in Europe. He knew seven languages. He could speak about God to many people in their native language. He was appointed a Bishop of Philadelphia in 1852. When he arrived there, he found only two Catholic schools. Within eight years, he opened a hundred more. His feast day is Jan. 5th

Saint Joseph

Saint Joseph was a carpenter who kept God's commandments. Joseph wanted to marry Mary. He then became the foster father of Jesus. His feast day is May 19th.

Saint Mary Magdalene wiped the feet of Jesus. She saw God rise to the Heaven. She died at 72 years of age. Her feast day is July 22nd.

Saint Margaret Mary

Saint Margaret Mary was born on July 22, 1647. The Lord showed His Sacred Heart to her in four different ways. He also made twelve promises. One was that He would bless the people who honored the Sacred Heart. Others were that he would console us in all of our troubles. He would be our refuge in life and, especially, in death.

Saint Marie Goretti

Saint Marie Goretti was born on a farm in Italy. One day her neighbor, Alessandro went to her house and wanted to do some thing wrong. She didn't want to do it, because it was a sin.

He attacked her and stabbed her fourteen times. On July 6, 1902, Maria died at the age of eleven years, nine months and twenty-one days. She forgave him before she died.

On June 23, 1947, Maria was declared a saint in Saint Peter's Square by Pope Pius XII. She is the patron saint of all boys and girls.

Saint Matthew

Saint Matthew is the patron saint of tax collectors and bankers. His feast day is celebrated on September 21st.

He lived during the first century AD His birth name was "Levi, son of Alphaeus", but Jesus renamed him Matthew after he became an apostle. Matthew means "gift of God". He preached for fifteen years. His death is a mystery. Some say he died a natural death, and some say he was tortured. He did not die a martyr.

Saint Michael

Saint Michael means "Who is like to God". Holy Scripture describes Michael as one of the chief princes. Although He was always called "The Archangel", the Greek fathers and many others place him over all angels as prince of Seraphim. His feast day is September 29th. He is the patron saint of grocers, mariners, paratroopers, police, and sickness.

Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick was born in Scotland over sixteen hundred years ago. He was kidnapped and taken to Ireland as a slave when he was around fourteen years of age. He prayed to God day and night for the non-believing people of Ireland. After about six years, God spoke to him in a dream and told him to leave Ireland. So he escaped over the sea. He had another dream where the people of Ireland spoke to him and said, "We beg you, holy youth, to come and walk among us once more."

He studied in monasteries to become a priest and returned to Ireland to preach the gospel. He used the shamrock to teach the people about the Holy Trinity. The three leaves were the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, with God as the stem uniting the three leaves. Saint Patrick preached for around forty years in Ireland and converted the whole country. He died on March 17, 461 at the age of 76.

Saint Teresa of Avila

Teresa was the daughter of noble parents in Spain. When she was only seven years of age, she and her brother liked to read stories from the Lives of the Saints. When she was still quite young, she became crippled by a disease and she was unable to walk. She prayed to Saint Joseph, who cured her. She lost her mother when she was ten. She begged the Mother of god to be her mother. Five years after her mother died, she joined the Carmelite Order. She built many new convents. By a life of prayer, work, and sacrifice, she brought many souls to Jesus. Her many writings show her great love for God. She wrote, "Let nothing trouble you, let nothing make you afraid. All things pass away. God never changes. Patience obtains everything. God alone is enough."

She died on October 4, 1582 after she had a vision of Jesus and many of the saints.

Saint Rose of Lima

Rose was one of the oldest of the many children in her family. Her wish was to join a convent where she could spend the whole day in prayer. Many people came to her for help, and she never turned anyone away. She also knew that our love for God is shown by our love for others.

Saint Paul

Saint Paul Francis Daneo was born on January 3, 1694 in Ovado, Italy. He had three visions of a black robe with a Jesus' name and a white cross on it. In three visions, the Blesses Mother encouraged Saint Paul to found a community that would mourn the death of Jesus. They were called the Passionists.

He was ordained a priest in1734, and preached throughout Italy. He died in1775. He was 81 years old. People nicknamed him "Paul of the Cross".

Saint Peter Claver

Peter Claver was born at Verdu in 1581. He became a Spanish Jesuit who studied in Majorca in 1605. From there he was sent to Cartengna, South America where he worked to help the people for forty years. He was the Apostle of the African Black People. He was known as the "Slave of the Slaves". Peter was their apostle, physician and friend.

St. Therese of the Child Jesus

When Therese was fifteen years old she became a Carmelite nun in Lisieux, France. She remembered that as a child, she used to pick flowers to bring to her parents, just to show she loved them.

Her daily actions were compared to these flowers. She used her daily work to show God she loved him.

This is why she's called "The Little Flower."

She did extraordinary things in an ordinary way.

Her feast day is October 1st.

Saint Thomas Acquinas

St. Thomas Acquinas liked to study religion and science. He liked to study with priests and monks. Monks are a group of priests. One day, St. Thomas became a great teacher. He taught religion, and taught people how to understand God and the Church.

St. Thomas was born in Naples, Italy. He died in 1274 in Fossa Nuova.

Saint Veronica

Saint Veronica went with Christ to Calvary and offered Him a towel on which He left the imprint of His face, This towel is known as Veronica's Veil. An Italian legend records that Saint Veronica's veil cured Emperor Tiberius.

A beautiful prayer would be, "Lord God, You showed Heavenly gifts on Saint Veronica, the Virgin. Help us to imitate her during our life on earth, and enjoy eternal happiness with her in Heaven."

Saint Victoria Strata

 

Victoria was born in Genoa, Italy in 1562. I was married when I was seventeen to Angelo Strata. I had six children. I helped the poor. Ten other women and I took vows of religion in1605, after my husband had died. This was the beginning of the Blue Nuns. Victoria was elected to be the superior. A second convent was opened in 1612.

Victoria died on December 15, 1617. She was beatified in 1826.

Saint Vincent De Paul

Vincent was born in France in 1576. When he was a young priest, he was captured by Turkish pirates who sold him into slavery. For two years he had to work hard for the masters who had bought him. He converted his last master and was let free. Vincent was sent to work in a parish near Paris. He was a very great friend of the poor. He started groups to look after them. The women took care of the sick and cooked meals for them. Men gave food and clothes to the needy, also. Vincent started the Order of the Daughters of Charity.

They worked for the poor and the sick. He built homes for the poor, the sick, the aged, and the abandoned children. He also started the Congregation of the Mission, a society of priest and missionaries. They are called the Venetians.

Vincent died in Paris at the age of eighty-four. The Saint Vincent De Paul Society continues his work for the poor today.

Saint William

Saint William Abbot was born in the year 962. He was taught by his uncle who helped him decide to become a priest. Even though he was a good person, he had enemies that wanted to kill him. He was sent to Denmark. Even though it was hard, he stayed to help the people. God rewarded him by helping him heal all the people that needed it. You can learn from William to not give up.

Saint Monica

Monica lived in the early 300's. She was married early in her life and had three children. One of these children was Saint Augustine who changed his evil ways because of Monica's prayers. She lived in North Africa.

She is the patron saint of married women and mothers. Her feast day is August 27th.

Saint Bernadette

Saint Bernadette was born in Lourdes France. One day Bernadette was gathering twigs for firewood out in the fields. One day while she was in the fields, the Blessed Mother appeared to her. She appeared seventeen more times. She died at a young age and had a wealthy life. One day Mary told Bernadette to dig in the mud. As she did a stream of water began to flow. When people began to use this water miracles began to happen.
