                                      Weekly Update                                      Dec. 9, 2011

This week we have continued turning over alphabet letters on our wall cards.  We've been introduced to the letters Ll, Tt and Pp.  We reviewed our high frequency words  while reading our pre-reading decodable book titled "The Fire Truck".  We enjoyed the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.  Monday we began our project with Jack and the Beanstalk.  We did all of the cutting and coloring.  We also visited Mrs. Alloway.  On Tuesday we finished our project by adding some beans along with assembling the scene from the fairytale.  Story time with Mrs. Higginbotham found us listening to several Christmas stories.  On Wednesday we used some "magic" beans to outline the first initial of our names.  Thursday we finished off our real and make believe unit by enjoying several gingerbread stories along with creating a craft gingerbread man.  Friday we listened to the story " Getting Ready for Christmas" from our Religion book and completed the page talking about Advent.  We really enjoyed decorating our own gingerbread cookies.  Thank you to Madilynn's mom for baking them for us.

Afternoons were spent creating a Christmas surprise along with decorating a stocking.

Next Week:  Spirit shirt NUT day on Tuesday.  Your child may wear their spirit shirt along with any jeans or shorts.  Wednesday we'll be going on a field trip.  I've included a permission slip in the Friday folder. On Friday our 4th grade buddies will be visiting at 11:00 to decorate Christmas cookies with us.

Christmas Program: The Pre-K classes will be joining together to sing on Monday evening is the annual Christmas pageant.  Your child will need to wear a red shirt and dark bottoms to the pageant on Monday Dec. 19th.

We are collecting new, unwrapped toys in the school office for needy children.  Would you please consider donating something?  During our Thanksgiving food drive our school community collected over 4000 canned goods.  Deacon Mike from Helping Hands thanked the children profusely.  He stated that 1 in 6 families in the Cocoa Rockledge area is struggling to put food on the table daily.  Any help you can give is appreciated.
