ST. CLARE

ST. CLARE is the patron saint of sore eyes, and is the foundress of an order of nuns called Poor Clare's. St. Clare was beautiful Italian girl, born in 1194 who loved to listen to St. Francis of Assisi preach. She loved St. Francis so much, that at 18 she ran away from home to begin her life as a nun. She came from a wealthy family but traded that life for sleeping on the ground, eating no food, going bare-foot, and cutting her long blond hair off. Clare's family was not happy with her new simple life and to their surprise, Clare's sister , Agnes, joined the convent 16 days later! Clare suffered from an illness the lasted 27 years of her life , but she never lost her faith. She died in 1263 and her feast day is August 11th.
