Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat Madeleine Sophie Barat was born in France in 1779. She got her education from her older brother who was studying to become a priest . One of brothers friends talked to her about starting a religious school for women . Because of her love for God she started the first school for nuns. The name of her school was The Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. When she was only 23 years old, she was appointed the school's principal . She stayed the principal for 63 years. By the time she died, she had opened more than 100 schools in 16 countries, including the United States of America. Madeleine Sophie Barat was made a saint in 1925. Her feast day is May 2.
