Each family registered at St. Mary's is required to complete 20 hours of volunteer service during each school year.
"Families that do not complete their volunteer hours by May 16, 2008, will be required to pay a $200 fee."
Families that actually volunteer on campus during normal school hours should login to the office computer at the start of their volunteer period and logout at the end of the period.
Failure to logout of the office computer will result in a default 1.0 hour volunteer period.
Families that volunteer hours off campus or outside of normal school hours, and therefore cannot login/logout of the office computer, should fill out a Volunteer Credit Record Form (available in the office) and turn it in to the office.
Families must accrue volunteer hours as they earn them. Families cannot submit a Volunteer Credit Record Form at the beginning of the school year stating they will put in 100 volunteer hours over the course of the year as a Scout Leader. They must log each and every meeting, campout, etc. as an entry on a Volunteer Credit Record Form in order to receive credit for the time.
Families that donate home-baked goods for events such as class parties, bake sales, meetings, etc. will earn 1 volunteer hour for each event.
Families that donate party supplies (store-baked goods, packaged drinks, plates, cups, etc.), classroom supplies, wish-list donations, books, etc. will earn 1 hour for each $10.00 value. Receipts (or copies with the credit card number removed) MUST be submitted along with the Volunteer Credit Record Form to earn credit.
At this time, there will NOT be monthly drawings to give away prizes to families that have earned volunteer hours. The reason is we don't have a cash donor lined up this year to buy prizes. Should a donor come forward later during the school year, the Board will reconsider starting the monthly drawings again.
Home and School Association Executive Board families, Committee Head families and Teacher families will automatically earn their 20 hours upfront (believe me, they will definitely put in many more hours than 20).
Each and every volunteer hour entry that a family correctly submits will be logged to the Volunteer Hour Tables, even after the family has earned 20 hours.
On the Volunteer Credit Record Form, PLEASE correctly identify the family that the volunteer hours should be credited. Just the last name of the family will not always cut it as there are a few families with the same last name. The Volunteer Hours Tables identify the family by the first and last name of the parent that registered the student(s). If you share your last name with another family, try and use the first and last name from the Volunteer Hour Tables on your Volunteer Credit Record Form.
