Dear Parents,
This is the curriculum for your child's fourth
quarter of fourth grade. Many of these skills are ongoing and we will work on
them throughout the year.
In Math, the students will study finding equivalent fractions, mixed numbers,
and adding/subtracting fractions. A unit in geometry will have them recognizing
geometric terms, identifying and classifying shapes, finding perimeters, area,
and volume.
Science will find them studying
electricity and
magnetism, with emphasis on ways that energy can be transformed. A unit on
light and sound will show them various forms of energy and how waves travel at
different speeds through different materials.
Religion classes will complete the study of the Ten Commandments in relation to
their lives as fourth graders. We will also complete a unit on Family Life along
with a study of the rosary and our devotion to Mary during the month of May.
Florida History and completion of our study of the regions of the United States
will be our final course in Social Studies.
In English, Writing and Spelling classes, the children will continue to focus on
proper grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation. We will refine the 6 + 1
Writing Trait process and continue proofreading skills. Spelling will be
spotlighted not only in our weekly units, but correct spelling in all our daily
work will be our ultimate goal.
In Reading, they will learn new vocabulary words, create webs to activate prior
knowledge, predict outcomes, retell plots, and accurately answer comprehension
questions. The Reading Renaissance program will be fully utilized. Two novels
will be completed.
Technology will continue to be of paramount importance this quarter.
Your child will be ready for the challenges of fifth grade!
