Research consistently shows that students can lose significant academic ground over the summer months when they are not regularly engaged in reading and math practice—a phenomenon often referred to as the "summer slide." In fact, studies have found that students may lose up to two months of math skills during a typical summer break.

To help students maintain the progress they worked so hard to achieve this year, St. Mary's has assigned summer reading and/or math practice for all students. These assignments are designed to reinforce essential skills, build confidence, and help students return to school ready for a successful start to the new year.

We encourage families to spread the work throughout the summer rather than waiting until August. Just a little practice each week can make a tremendous difference in helping students retain skills and continue growing as learners.
